Appalachian State University

Nestled in historic downtown Boone NC, Appalachian State University prepares students to lead purposeful lives as engaged global citizens who understand their responsibilities in creating a sustainable future for all. The transformational Appalachian experience promotes a spirit of inclusion that brings people together in inspiring ways to acquire and create knowledge, to grow holistically, to act with passion and determination, and embrace diversity and difference. Appalachian enrolls about 18,000 students, has a low faculty-to-student ratio and offers more than 150 undergraduate and graduate majors. It is one of 16 universities in the University of North Carolina system.

More than 450 student-athletes compete in 20 NCAA Division I varsity sports at Appalachian State University as Mountaineers, and dedicated fans love to cheer them on. App State was a dominant force in the Southern Conference for more than 40 years. On July 1, 2014, Appalachian State moved to the Sun Belt Conference – one of 10 conferences that are members of the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). All varsity teams compete in the Sun Belt Conference, except for field hockey and wrestling.

Appalachian boasts some of the finest athletics facilities that collegiate sports have to offer. The crown jewel is Kidd Brewer Stadium and the neighboring Appalachian Athletics Center, which houses training and academic areas for all 20 varsity sports, plus club seating and luxury suites for Mountaineer football.

The Appalachian State University Alumni Association consists of over 109,000 living Appalachian alumni. Membership is free and open to all graduates of our beloved Alma Mater. The Office of Alumni Affairs is pleased to provide networking opportunities, affinity program discounts, alumni chapter gatherings and special events, alumni merchandise, event photos and much more to all members of The Appalachian Family!

Lees McRae College
In the heart of downtown Banner Elk NC is Lees McRae College –  Lees-McRae educates and inspires students to approach life and work from a creative, collaborative, and critical perspective in preparation for diverse careers and environments. Through common ambition, we maintain our focus on the needs of all learners—residential on the main campus and degree-completion through our online programs. Some are athletes, some are in the honors program, and some are working while returning to school. Regardless of where you are and where you want to go, our expert faculty and committed staff will help you get there.

We have specialty programs like Wildlife Rehabilitation or Cycling Studies and we have programs like Creative Marketing or Performing Arts Studies that draw from different disciplines. And, yes, we have traditional majors like Biology, English, and Psychology as well as pre-professional majors like Nursing, Business and Education. All of our majors are rigorous and will challenge, surprise and reward you along the way. We expect the best from you and anticipate the best for you.

You don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy the Bobcat competitive spirit. We value teamwork because we go further together. Whether you suit up and take the field or root for the green and gold from the bleachers—we take pride in our performance and always push ourselves to improve. Our athletes are students first, and concern themselves with making the grade before hitting the gym. Through discipline, hard work and perseverance our teams thrive each year. We know you are dedicated and we want you to succeed.

The Lees-McRae College Alumni Association includes more than 7,000 graduates and former students. Association members play a vital role in fostering support for every aspect of Lees-McRae, from fundraising to recruiting prospective students. Lifetime members include all graduates and former students who successfully completed at least two semesters and left the College in good standing. The annual meeting of the Alumni Association is held each year during Homecoming and Family Weekend.
